Lake Charles, Louisiana - It's going to be a big week here in Lake Charles because Juneteenth celebrations are returning this week. This year's schedule features family-friendly events, entertainment, education, and community activities. We've got a look at everything going on this week in Lake Charles.
The week-long celebration honors Juneteenth, the day that marks the end of slavery in the United States. The event is designed to celebrate freedom, culture, history, and community while bringing people together.

Juneteenth Events Happening in Lake Charles This Week
The events are already underway, as yesterday the parade kicked off the week's events.
Today, the festival will host Men's and Women's Health Day at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on North Simmons Street. The event will include health screenings, information about mental wellness, stress management, and financial planning for healthcare.
Tuesday, June 16th - Kids will take center stage during the KidFit Olympics from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children of all ages can participate in fun activities like relay races, sack races, tug-of-war, and hula hoop contests. Prizes and medals will also be awarded. Later that evening, families can head to the Lake Charles Event Center Amphitheater for the annual Juneteenth Movie Under the Stars. This year's featured movie is Toy Story. The movie starts at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, June 17th - Seniors can enjoy a special Juneteenth Bingo Celebration at the MLK Center. The games will include Juneteenth history and cultural themes while giving participants a chance to win prizes and learn something new. Later on Wednesday night, comedian, actress, and television personality Sheryl Underwood will host the Great American Talent Search at Geebeaux's.
Thursday, June 18th - Festival will hold its annual Scholarship Brunch. During the event, several local high school seniors will receive scholarships to help pay for college expenses. That evening, Underwood returns to Geebeaux's for her "I Need a Job" Comedy Tour. Organizers promise a night of laughter, food, music, and entertainment.
Friday, June 19th - Juneteenth Freedom Festival Family Day and Concert at the Lake Charles Event Center. Activities include the third annual Sauce Piquant Cook-Off, live entertainment, cultural exhibits, a large vendor marketplace, food vendors, and a KidZone filled with games and activities for children.
Saturday, June 20th - Freedom Clean-Up and Green Initiative. Volunteers will gather to help clean and beautify parts of Lake Charles while giving back to the community.
