2024 didn't start well for country and Cajun music fans as we lost to incredible musicians, artists, and singers. First Louisiana's heart was broken as we all learned that the bayou state's native son Jo-EL Sonnier had passed away on January 13th, 2024 after just finishing up a performance in Llano, Texas at the age of 77.

Sonnier was a Cajun and Country artist releasing some of the most iconic Cajun songs and albums, winning him a Grammy Award late in his career. He also spent time in Nashville releasing the iconic country hits Teear Staind Letter, No More One More Time, and Rainin' In My Heart. His version of Jolie Blond, the Cajun music hit, is the most popular version of the song ever recorded.

Just a little over three weeks later we learned that country music icon Toby Keith had passed away on February 5, 2024, in his sleep after fighting stomach cancer. Keith started his country music career by releasing his first single Should've Been A Cowboy in 1993. He racked up 20 number-one hits and became one of the most popular country singers ever.

Jo-EL throughout his Cajun and Country music career became really good friends with a ton of iconic country music stars and he also lent his talented playing on a ton of hit country music songs that you know. So it was almost a certainty that one day Toby and Jo-EL would perform on the stage together one day.

Jo-EL's wife Bobbye posted a video over the weekend reminiscing about how Toby and Jo-EL played together. She said,

What a great memory to look back on, especially today when I’ve had a hard grief day. It’s so hard to believe that both of these guys are now making music together again in Heaven, but they are. Both of them left this world much too soon. Toby Keith was certainly a man of his word when he told my Jo-EL that he was welcome to play with him anytime and anywhere he close to show up. It was a night to remember for the rest of my life and I thought I’d share it with you tonight.

We love this and just like Bobbye, we wanted to share the performance with you. Check this out.
